Janice Savage is a Commodity Tax Professional with 24 years of experience in advisory, recovery and compliance services. She has worked in all aspects of Commodity, or “Indirect”, Tax having gained experience with BGI Benchmark Group in tax recovery, and learning the compliance and advisory practice at two of Canada’s largest accounting firms, Deloitte and KPMG.

Prior to starting her own firm, Janice served as the KPMG Practice Leader for Indirect Tax in Southwestern Ontario. As a Senior Manager, she was in a unique position of completing challenging advisory projects while overseeing the quality and reliability of deliverables being prepared for clients. She had notable success in the field of dispute resolution and voluntary disclosures and became the “go-to” problem solver of choice for Partners in the region whose clients were being treated unfairly by the Canada Revenue Agency.

Savage Tax was founded on the principal that excellent service in this unique practice area should be available with fair and transparent fees attached. The right thing is not always the easy thing but an advisor should help ease the stress of compliance and not create additional anxiety.

Most recently, a 3 - year project resulted in the CRA reversing an unfair and inequitable policy related to GST/HST rebate entitlement for affordable housing providers across Canada which will potentially results in millions of dollars being reinvested in the country’s most vulnerable citizens. At the same time, Janice served on a team that worked to change the Excise Tax Act to correct an inequity in the legislation. That amendment was introduced in the House of Common in May 2019.

Janice maintained a seat of the Board of Directors and Finance Committee of Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region for 6 years ending in June 2019. In addition to being a member of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce she was also a speaker at the 8th Annual Inspiring Women event held by the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, Janice actively volunteers for CPA Canada’s Financial Literacy Program speaking to groups of various sizes about such matters as teaching children about money, financial literacy for new Canadians and identity theft prevention.

She is a graduate of the CPA, CMA program, the CICA GST/HST In-Depth Program and well as the CICA GST/HST In-Depth Program on Cross Border transactions. Say something interesting about your business here.
